Los días 11 y 12 de marzo en la sede de la Cepal en Chile, se realizó el foro “Avances y desafíos de la cooperación internacional en desastres”, organizado por el SELA, junto a la Cepal y SENAPRED. En la segunda jornada, participó en representación del instituto nuestra directora de vinculación, Macarena Pérez, quien presentó los proyectos y la experiencia del instituto en el panel: “Alianzas público privadas para la RRD en infraestructura: el rol de la cooperación internacional.

Escolares de Tabasco presentan investigaciones sobre las amenazas en sus territorios
Alumnos del Colegio Latino, ubicado en la ciudad de Cárdenas, en Tabasco, México, expusieron sus trabajos de investigación sobre diversas amenazas a las que está expuesta la población en una sesión a la que fue invitada nuestra directora de Vinculación, Macarena Pérez. La investigación de los alumnos fue liderada por el profesor Artemio Gómez, y la temática surgió después de que la Escuela participara el año pasado en el diplomado "Educación y Resiliencia: Estrategias para el desarrollo de competencias directivas”, organizado por el PNUD y en el que Itrend impartió un módulo. How much is known about tsunamis in the Valparaíso region?
If you experience an earthquake in the coastal zone, do you know what characteristics it must have to generate a tsunami? or do you know the term vertical evacuation? These are some of the questions posed by the survey conducted by students in their last year of Geology at the Universidad Andrés Bello (UNAB), Viña del Mar, in a citizen consultation carried out in conjunction with Itrend-Aprende Resilience to inquire about the level of knowledge of evacuation plans and signage, in the event of a potential tsunami threat and the perception of risk.

Progress of the partnership between Itrend and SENAPRED
During January, SENAPRED's National Early Warning Unit began the white march of the first version of the Events and Monitoring of Fire Alerts Application, a tool created by Itrend, which will systematize the management and monitoring process of events, alerts and emergencies associated with wildfires.

Some of Itrend's results during 2023
This was a year of progress and great challenges for the Institute for Disaster Resilience. In addition to the expansion of the Data Platform and Learn Resilience, the institute had a strong growth in the area of digital technology development, which was reflected in the initiation of several projects, some of which were developed in conjunction with public agencies. Along with the above, various joint activities were carried out with many of our collaborators, especially with the organizations and services that are members of Itrend's Civil Society Councils and Public Bodies. Here is a summary of some of the initiatives carried out whose results were published or delivered this year.

Itrend participates in Regional Policy Dialogue organized by IDB
At the beginning of the first day, Macarena Pérez, Director of Linking and Networks, presented the case of Itrend as one of the successful models of collaboration between the public sector, academia and private research centers in Latin America. The objective of the meeting was precisely to publicize these cases in order to promote the adoption of these models in the countries of the region.

First Report on Characterization of Public Expenditure in RDM
How many resources does Chile allocate to disaster risk management? is one of the questions that the first Public Expenditure Report for Integrated Disaster Risk Management (GIRD) carried out in Chile by the Institute for Disaster Resilience (Itrend) attempts to answer. Less than 1% of the national budget is allocated to finance programs that deal with disaster risk management and the main mechanism to respond to emergencies is budget reallocation. While highlighting positive aspects, the study highlights the lack of a robust governance structure for resource management in this area, and the need for a comprehensive budget design that systematically addresses the challenge of resilience.

Technologies to anticipate this summer's forest fires mark 2nd version of Chile Resilient Chile
José Torero and Ellen Rahtje, from the University College of London and the DesignSafe platform respectively, were the main speakers at the event, which also included two discussion panels made up of representatives from academia, local governments and civil society. The objective of the meeting, which was attended by more than a hundred guests, was to discuss the importance of the use of technology to anticipate wildfires and avoid their negative consequences.
